Description
Secrets was inspired by childhood memories of magic, the end of rainbows and god. The painting is also personally connected to Mary Magdalene and many secrets that are unfolding.
Mary Magdalene Series are paintings I have done over the years related to Mary Magdalene. They have been inspired by dreams and memories. At the heart of these paintings is my strong belief in the relationship between Jesus and Mary Magdalene. My love series is an exploration of the the notion of sacred love, sacred sex and soul mates. I have always believed that there is twin soul for everyone. I believe lots of fairytales are based on this notion, finding your one true love. For a long time I have believed that Jesus and Mary were a representation of this principle. That they have a great love that transends time and place. I also believe that their love represents the balance of masculine and feminine and that for any type of relationship to work there needs to be this balance. I think the feminine has been very badly represented through the ages and still is to this day. As a child going to church I was given to options as a child when it came to my femininity. The Virgin Mary, who was so pure and good it seemed an impossible task to live up to her. Or Mary Magdalene who was a prostitute apparently and bad, but luckly she had been forgiven. However she was not someone you should aspire to. In the church men got to do/be everything. It never sat well with me and and I never accepted it. Everything about going to church was about fear. I lived in fear if I didn't say the lords prayer that the devil would get me. In the midst of all the fear Mary Magdalene and Jesus fascinated me. Mary was at the cross and the first person to see Jesus on Easter Sunday. I drew my own conclusions and thought Jesus must love her very much. Over time I discarded the notion that she was a prostitute but had been very badly represented by the church in their need for power. I think Mary Magdalene and Jesus represent the love of loves and the need for the balance of masculine and feminine to be fully restored. To me sex or sacred sex is the coming together of soulmates on the highest level and is not just physical but spiritual something that I am sure Jesus and Mary Magdalene experienced in their cave way back when.

Mary Magdalene (original Greek Μαρία ἡ Μαγδαληνή),[2] or Mary of Magdala and sometimes The Magdalene, is a religious figure in Christianity. She is usually thought of as the second-most important woman in the New Testament after Mary the mother of Jesus.[3] Mary Magdalene traveled with Jesus as one of his followers. She was present at Jesus' two most important moments: the crucifixion and the resurrection.[4] Within the four Gospels, the oldest historical record mentioning her name, she is named at least 12 times,[5] more than most of the apostles. The Gospel references describe her as courageous, brave enough to stand by Jesus in his hours of suffering, death and beyond.[3]
In the New Testament, Jesus cleansed her of "seven demons",[Lk. 8:2] [Mk. 16:9] sometimes interpreted as referring to complex illnesses.[6] Mary was most prominent during Jesus' last days. When Jesus was crucified by the Romans, Mary Magdalene was there supporting him in his final moments and mourning his death.[4] She stayed with him at the cross after the male disciples (except John the Beloved) had fled. She was at his burial, and she is the only person that all four Gospels say was first to realize that Jesus had risen and to testify to that central teaching of faith.[7][8] John 20 and Mark 16:9 specifically name her as the first person to see Jesus after his Resurrection. She was there at the "beginning of a movement that was going to transform the West".[4] She was the "Apostle to the Apostles", an honorific that fourth-century orthodox theologian Augustine gave her[9] and that others earlier had possibly conferred on her.
Throughout the centuries there have been many extra-biblical speculations about her role before and after she met Jesus. These have included harlot, wife, mother, and secret lover.[4][5][9]
St. Mary Magdalene is considered be a saint by the Catholic, Orthodox, Anglican, and Lutheran churcheswith a feast day of July 22. Other Protestant churches honor her as a heroine in the faith. The Eastern Orthodox churches also commemorate her on the Sunday of the Myrrhbearers, the Orthodox equivalent of the Western Three Marys. from wiki
